Security Alarm Response: The Benefits of Privatization

Over the last 20 years, new technology has made it easier, faster and more cost effective
to remotely detect security problems in homes and businesses. As a result, an “alarming
gap” has emerged – between the ability to detect problems and the ability of the police to
respond. This paper examines costs and benefits of outsourcing alarm response to private
security firms.
